Eagle Scout:
Tim Raymer/Jim James. Solicit names of young men
earning Eagle Scout status from every council in our chapter
coverage. Arrange for ceremony to recognize them and award
SAR Certificate of Achievement. Family members are invited.
Outstanding Citizen: Recognizes high school
seniors who show outstanding achievement in academics and community
service. Nominated by local high schools. Awards
presentation in April in Edwardsville. Contact chapter
chairman Bob Stegemeier.
ROTC/EMS/Law Enforcement(LE)/EMS/Fire
Safety/Hero: Present award to Junior ROTC cadet at Alton High School. The recipient is
selected by the school and given to the chairman through email/phone
contact. At the JROTC level,
students are eligible for a $500 Illinois SAR award if a winning essay
is submitted. The individual schools set the time and place
for the award presentations. LE/EMS/Fire Safety and Hero
award recipients are selected when regional news highlight worthy
accomplishments. There is a different type medal and certificate

Schweizer History Teacher Award: State award named for our
chapter founder Charles Schweizer. It recognizes a teacher
for outstanding accomplishments in teaching history of the
Revolutionary War period. Nominated teachers fill out a form, write
a short essay and submit a letter of recommendation from a school
administrator. State winners
receive a $500 award and may be eligible for the $1,000 National SAR
Lawrence award and paid expenses to Louisville. Contact the chairman.
Knights Essay: A nation-wide contest designed to give high school
students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) an opportunity to explore
events that shaped American History. The contest was named for the
George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest in honor of their generous
gift to the SAR to support it. Significant monetary awards
are presented at the state and national level (additional information
available from state chairman).
Rumbaugh Oral Presentation: This award is for high school students for an
original oration of not less than five minutes nor more than six,
dealing with the Revolutionary War period. Monetary awards
are given at state and national level (contact
state chairman).
